Where Can I Use Air Conditioning Units?

Air conditioning can be used almost anywhere, in fact, it is used almost anywhere:

  • Planes, trains, boats and other transportation
  • Offices, schools, and factories
  • Server rooms
  • In the home
  • And much more

PSS Installations are a commercial air conditioning contractor; we provide air conditioning installation in a variety of places and industries. We do not, however, install air conditioning domestically.

How Much Does It Cost?

A small unit to install for example an average living room (30 square metres) would require a 4kw unit, the approximate cost including labour to install would be £1,900 (based on average installation, the exact price would be subject to survey). This unit has a COP (performance efficiency) of 4.2 which means for every kW of electricity it takes to run it gives you 4.2 kW of cooling/heating performance.

How Long Does It Take To Install?

The example unit above would take, on average, 2 days to install. We can give you an accurate idea of installation costs and the timeframe during your free survey.

How Do I Know What Size Air Conditioner To Get?

There are many variables involved when calculating the ideal sized unit for your air conditioning:

  • Room size
  • Climate
  • Purpose (gym, office, etc)
  • And more

Our engineers will take all these variables into consideration when calculating the size unit you need to ensure ideal performance and efficiency levels. A room generally requires between 125-150 watts of cooling per square metre.

If you would like an idea of the size you need you can do a short calculation:

(Room width in metres x room length in metres) x 125 = Watts needed

So a room that is 10m long and 12m wide:

10 x 12 = 120

120 x 125 = 15,000

This room would need a 15Kw system.

How Does It Work?

It passes the existing air in the room across a cooled or heated coil to decrease or increase the air temperature respectively. This cycle is continued until the selected temperature is reached. The a/c will maintain that temperature in the room until the controller adjusted or turned off. A basic A/C system does not provide your fresh air requirements, fresh air is provided through ventilation.

What Is Air Purification & What Does An Air Purification Device Do?

Air purification is the process of cleaning the air from pollution.

An air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air. These devices are commonly seen to be beneficial to allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Commercial grade air purifiers are. Air purifiers may also be used in industry to remove impurities such as CO2 from the air before processing.

How Often Should I Have My Equipment Serviced?

This all depends on what your AC system is being used for, if it is in an office with 5-6 people your system should be serviced once or twice a year to keep it running efficiently. If, however, your equipment is used to cool a gym it will need more regular servicing, due to it working harder and dead skin particles and sweat getting into the system.

What Is R22?

R22 is a type of refrigerant gas used in many older air conditioning units, any air conditioning over 10 years old probably uses R22 refrigerant, an ozone-depleting CFC which is now banned in new systems across the EU. By law R22 systems will become unserviceable at the end of 2014, meaning they will be illegal to repair in the event of any failure. Many manufacturers no longer support these systems so spare parts are fast becoming unobtainable.

My System Has a Warranty – Why Do I Need a Maintenance Contract?

You need a maintenance contract to prove to the manufacturer of your AC unit that you have taken the correct measures to prevent your AC from breaking.
