A large multinational company, Rockwell Automation, selected PSS Installations to assist them on fibre optic cabling project.
The Fibre Optic Cabling Project
Rockwell Automation’s client was bringing in a drilling rig into Invergordon Scotland for upgrade works. The controls systems were utilising fibre optic cabling that was being installed by the main contractor. Our services were required to fusion splice and OTDR test the fibre optic cabling network connecting a main control system to the communications network.
The Solution
Fibre cables were installed and glanded by others into panel mounted boxes complete with ST bulkheads and cable management in each panel and mounted. PSS Installations then went in to test the fibre optic installation to prove the cables were without cable installation fault. The fibre optic cabling was then fusion spliced and terminated in the control room. Finally, all terminated fibres were tested with OTDR and test results provided.
To Conclude
The fibre optic cabling works were carried out smoothly, professionally and without a problem. The drilling rig control room now has a communication network utilising this fibre optic network between the control system and the external plant. Fibre optic cabling is used for the inherent properties that make it safe to pass through potentially explosive environments. The Fibre cable test results were provided to the client.
PSS Installations has experience working in a wide range of environments, oil rigs on/off-shore, petrochemical, industrial, office, schools and more.
