Recently our electrical services division won a lighting upgrade project in Newham, London. Our client Axis had engaged us as part of their supply chain for electrical works. This particular project involved the lighting upgrade to communal areas of several blocks of flats.
Lighting Upgrade Services
The scope of the supplied works package outlined the works as the replacement of 580 communal lights. The old existing lights were 28w 2d fittings that required upgrading to more cost efficient LED lighting. So our electrical and H&S managers attended the site to carryout a survey to draw up the RAMS. The asbestos register provided showed some asbestos ceiling were in the buildings. This would effect our RAMS and the way we could change some of the lighting. We quickly realised the electricians would not be able to unscrew lights or drill ceilings causing a possible asbestos disturbance.
To safely upgrade the lights we devised a method that would not require drilling. As a result our method required the new LED light to be modified to fit into the existing light fitting. Working in live conditions that are open the public requires experience and relevant health and safety training. Consequently the RAMS provide them with safe working methods based on the risk assessment. Most importantly this keeps our electrical engineers and the public safe when passing through work areas.
We completed the lighting works over several weeks that met the projects milestones.
Electrical Services
Our electrical experience allowed us to offer a cost effective upgrade solution by retrofitting the lighting. Therefore avoiding the specialist removal of asbestos which is expensive and would have delayed completion of this project.
